Can you just replace the glass in the RV window?

Yes, this is possible and it will take a little work to do the task right. When you remove the window from its place in your RV, check the frame and the seals to make sure they are not damaged or worn out.  If those two parts are in good shape, you should be able to reuse them when you buy your replacement glass. But, if those parts are not in top shape, then contact your dealer or a good RV parts store to find a replacement window set.

What type of glass is used in RV windows?
In most cases, tempered glass is used for RV side windows. Tempered glass was developed to be a safety window to protect all passengers inside all vehicles.  However, some RV makers have gone to using acrylic for some of their windows. This is even safer to use as acrylic is hard to break under normal circumstances.  A third option, laminated glass, is often used by RV makers for their luxury lines of RVs. The laminated glass is stronger than either tempered glass or acrylic and should last longer. This type of glass improves the noise reduction rating.

How do you seal old RV windows?

The rubber seals hold your RV windows in place and protect against foggy windows. But they are not foolproof. To ensure that your windows are sealed properly, you need to use caulk.  Inspect your older RV and look for cracks or chips in the original caulking. If you find some, remove the old caulk and replace it with new. There are a lot of good caulking brands to choose from.  Double-check those rubber seals as they too will wear out and create holes for moisture to get through to your RV’s interior.

How often should you reseal RV windows?
There is no set time when you have to reseal your RV’s windows. This task is up to you to decide when you should do it. The best thing to do would be to do monthly inspections on your RV’s windows to see if the caulking has cracked, chipped, or broken.  If you see any one or more of this damage, then you should clean out the old caulk and replace it with new.  If you are not sure you need to re-caulk your windows or do not know what to look for, then bring your RV to our location. Our professionals will conduct a thorough search and replace any old caulk that is damaged.  Make an appointment with us today as broken caulk does harm your RV in hidden spots.
